TAMPA - In celebration of the strawberry season, patients at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital got to feast on strawberry shortcakes, get their faces painted and receive coloring books.
Students from Riverview High School's Family Career Community Leaders of America program painted the kids' faces, and Sweetbay Supermarket's "Berry Man" entertained with fun facts about the local production of strawberries. He also handed out stickers and other gifts.
The Plant City area has a virtual lock on the nation's winter strawberry production.
In celebration of the winter harvest, the community holds the annual Florida Strawberry Festival, which includes shortcake booths, midway rides and a big lineup of country music performers.
This year's festival runs from Feb. 28 through March 9.
