PLANT CITY - The Junior Boys League Raptors became the first team to reach five victories in Plant City Recreation and Parks Department/Optimist youth basketball league, beating the Lakers 38-28 Jan. 28.
A day after the Raptors hit the 5-0 mark, three of the other program's teams reached that status. The Dolphins and Grizzlies of the Cadet League (ages 8 to 9) stayed undefeated along with the Mavericks in the Premiere Boys League (14 to 16).
Another team had a shot to go 5-0, but the Sting were on the losing side of a 13-12 game in the Junior Girls (ages 10 to 11) League on Jan. 29. Madison Bradshaw, Kasi Maguire and Dominique Dixon scored four each for the Liberty in beating the Sting.
In the Raptors' win over the Lakers, Hunter Shuff scored 15 points and Quenton Williams added 10. The Junior Boys (10 to 11) games are played at the Plant City Family YMCA. Next up for the Raptors is a game Thursday against the Spurs, who last week were tied with the Bulls for second place. The Bulls topped the Celtics 23-17 with Christopher Collins and Tamareze Hunter scoring six points apiece.
Neither the Dolphins nor Grizzlies had any trouble keeping their records spotless. Gannon Martin had 10 points in the Fins' 25-6 win over the Cougars and Caleb Gregory scored 11 for the Grizzlies, who beat the Colts 25-4.
The Playoffs begin Monday.
