Planning Under Way For Annual Rainbow Ball

PLANT CITY - Calendars should be marked for the 21st annual Rainbow Ball on April 26.

The event will be held at the Red Rose Inn and Suites' Red Rose Ballroom, 2011 N. Wheeler St.

Again this year, the evening will feature wine tasting, live and silent auctions and a cigar tent.

In keeping with this year's theme of A Black and White Affair, guests are encouraged to wear attire in those colors.

All money raised will remain in Plant City for the Rainbow Center on Tillman Drive.

Annual Book Sale At Library Feb. 9

PLANT CITY - The Friends of the Bruton Memorial Library, 302 McLendon St., will hold the annual clearance book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 9. The special event will be in the library's Moody Community Room.

Library Director Anne Haywood said thousands of books are donated each year for the sale along with videos and compact discs. All will be offered for sale at low prices, she said. Items not sold or selected for the sale go into the Friends Bookstore, which is behind the service desk of the library.

Money raised by the sale will be used for library enhancements, including children's programs during summer, the Book Page magazine subscription, the children's aquarium, along with special purchases for the library.

Little Miss Pageant Registration Is Today

PLANT CITY - Sign-ups for the 2008 Little Miss Plant City Pageant, a project of the Junior Woman's Club of Plant City, will be from 10 a.m. to noon today at Nia Bella's, 119 E. Reynolds St.

The contest is for girls ages 8 to 10. The registration fee is $50.

If all the spaces are not filled, registration will continue at Nia Bella's from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The application deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 16, or when all 40 contestant spots have been filled.

Activities for the contestants begin with a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Woman's Club building, 1110 N. Wheeler St. Rehearsal will be at 7 p.m. March 28, at the Plant City High School auditorium.

The contest will be at 6 p.m. March 29 at the high school auditorium.

Former Little Miss Plant City title holders are invited to be guests at the contest and be recognized onstage.

Plant City Civitan Club Held Holiday Party

PLANT CITY - The Plant City Civitan Club held its annual Christmas party at Robinson Elementary School on Dec. 20 for the mental and developmental disability classes.

The Civitan Club provided the money for the school to buy a gift for each of the more than 120 students, and Santa visited the school to hand them out. Students waited until all gifts were distributed before they opened them.

The Civitan Club has been involved in the project for more than 25 years. Santa Claus is a member of the club who is active in the club's projects. After Santa's visit, refreshments were served.

NARFE Chapter Will Hold White Elephant Sale

PLANT CITY - The Strawberry Chapter of the National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees will hold its annual white elephant sale at 1 p.m. Thursday at the singles ministries building of the First Baptist Church of Plant City. The building is at 105 E. Baker St.

New members are welcome. Anyone interested in attending or joining the association may call chapter President Bob Lemlely at (863) 607-4844.

Connection Plans Special Luncheon

Area men and women are invited to attend the North Lakeland Christian Women's Connection's special Bring a Guest Luncheon on Thursday. The event will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Huntington Hills Golf and Country Club, 2626 Duff Road in Lakeland.

A special feature will be a discussion on Internet safety by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, and Diana Russell will present vocal selections. An inspirational feature will be by Al Cartwright of Clermont who will speak on "Flames and Smoke Filled the Cockpit," his near-death experience.

Reservations are required. Call (863) 816-1511. Walk-ins also will be accepted. Cost is $15 per person, payable at the door.
