PLANT CITY - About 60 friends and family members gathered earlier this month to welcome home Marine Lance Cpl. Joshua Knight, who spent eight months in Iraq.
The homecoming Dec. 6 celebrating his safe return from the war on terror included a picnic and cookout given by his brother Christopher Knight of Plant City and parents James and Sara Knight of Brandon.
"Let me tell you it was a joy, that's for sure," his grandmother, Olga Knight of Dover, said.
Knight's roots in the area run deep. The 23-year-old grew up in Brandon and graduated from Brandon High School, as did his wife of about 20 months, Stephanie. They have an 8-month-old daughter, Lauren. Other relatives include grandfather, Olga's husband Robert Sr., brothers David of Ocala and Matthew of Brandon and sister Britty of Dover.
Knight, who joined the Marines in April 2007, is stationed in Cherry Point, N.C. He expects to return to Iraq in 2009 and is considering a career in the Marines.
