Plant City students attending included Heather Cowart, Liliana Guiterrez, Damaris Ortega, Kodi Melton, Cody Livingston and Emil Ortiz.

Gift Of Reading

St. Joseph's Children's Hospital is 150 books richer through the efforts of Hillsborough County School District's elementary reading coaches.

Deana Moorman, reading coach at Cork Elementary School in Plant City, thought of the hospital when the reading coaches were deciding on a recipient for the donation. Moorman's daughter, Jamee, was once a patient at St. Joseph's.

Betty Jones, who was involved in a serious accident, has been home for a couple of weeks.

She said she has a lot of mending to do, and she thanked everyone for their calls, cards and visits.

Smith is physician's development specialist at South Florida Baptist Hospital.

Long Walk

Zoe Anglin of Plant City wanted to thank everyone who helped her raise $2,200 for her participation in the Susan G. Komen 60-mile/three-day walk.

She was overwhelmed by the help and donations from family, friends, peers, fellow employees of the city of Plant City, and even strangers.

A bake sale by the city's Finance Department at City Hall yielded the largest single donation.

"All departments in the city showed their support," Anglin said. "Tonya Tucker, Shawn Longoria and Trish Hendricks worked hard on their own time to help raise money."

Anglin also thanked her walking partners,

Congratulations to Amanda Napier, a Plant City High School senior recently named grand prize winner in an annual statewide essay contest sponsored by the Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society.

The subject of her essay was former Jannus Aviator of the Year James "Jimmy" Doolittle.

She won three round-trip airline tickets courtesy of Southwest Airlines and $600.

Plant City High swept the competition. Andrew Orso, a senior, took second place, and sophomore Max Girling was third.

The 45th Tony Jannus Awards Luncheon was held Oct. 30 at the Tampa Airport Marriott. Amanda's parents, Barry and Melissa Napier, attended, as did history teacher Bob Meredith and guidance resource specialist Sherrie Mueller.
