PLANT CITY - Jim Pollard, Annie Mae Thompson Robinson's son, says his mom partied hearty for two days recently to celebrate her 99th birthday.

She was born in Plant City to H.A. and Rachel Thompson, who moved to town in 1905.

Pollard, owner of Orange Blossom Tea Room, had a party at the tea room for his mom with 60 guests, including people from her Sunday school, nursing co-workers, a first cousin, nieces, nephews and friends.

The day after the party, Pollard and two of his mother's friends ventured to Disney World, where the Scooby Doo Review sang the birthday song for her and gave her a kiss.

Women To Participate In Breast Cancer 3-Day

PLANT CITY - It's that time of year again, for raising awareness and money to fight a disease that kills someone every 13 minutes. Every three minutes breast cancer is diagnosed in women and men.

The BoobBerries, Cindy Clark, Karen Bornstine, Marion Hale, Jan Sperry and Natalie Sweet, think these statistics demand community action.

They have committed to fundraising, training and dedicating a weekend to a special event, the Breast Cancer 3-Day. Each has agreed to raise at least $2,200 to qualify to walk Oct. 19-21 for a total of 20 miles a day.

Thousands of others will join them, and the proceeds will support research, education, screening and treatment through Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund.

A fundraiser will be held at Keel and Curley Winery, 5210 W. Thonotosassa Road, Plant City, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 12. Supporting this effort by contributing hors d'oeuvres are: Alfredo Porto, manager of Carrabba's, James Hine, proprietor of Outback Steakhouse, Henry Falcon, manager of the Sweetbay Supermarket on Alexander Street, and Heather Davis, owner of Espress Yourself Coffee 101.

To donate or participate, call team captain Bornstine, (813) 435-8111.

Party To Support Breast Cancer Research
PLANT CITY - Sister's & Company, a specialty store at 114 E. Reynolds St. in downtown, will do its part for breast cancer research by hosting a Pink Ladies Party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The party will celebrate the launch of Brighton's limited-edition Power of Pink jewelry collection that benefits charities supporting research.

Dollie Barron, the mother and grandmother of Sister's & Company's owners, died from breast cancer seven years ago.

Ten percent of sales that day will go to local teams participating in a three-day event that benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Brighton also will donate a portion of the Power of Pink necklace and bracelet sales.

Everyone who wears pink will receive a gift from Sister's.

For information, call the store at (813) 754-0990.
