PLANT CITY - Home is where the heart is, and every room in the Jennus house reflects the love Carol and Darryl Jennus have for the ocean. When they moved here from New Jersey four years ago to be near his mom, who was in her 90s and has since died, Carol Jennus left her hairdressing career and began creating themed rooms that reflect their passion for the sea and its creatures.
Darryl Jennus, a retired marine biologist, is very much at home with his wife's designs. Among the themed rooms are the guest bathroom with a penguin theme and the foyer with a collage of seashells and water fountain. Although Carol Jennus picks some things up at markets and antique shops, most she makes out of found materials, like a puffer fish made from a pillow.
Longtime Residents Moving To Gainesville
PLANT CITY - Best wishes to Sarah and Wallace Prophet, longtime residents, who are moving to Gainesville this month.
Wallace Prophet wrote a book, 'Our Life in Back Square,' about living in the Coronet area, and taught at the University of Florida. He is on the University Advisory Committee in the Psychology Department. He came here when he was 2 years old - his mother took a job at Coronet as a secretary.
Sarah Prophet was 8 when she moved here. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Their sons, Dale and Chuck, and families live in Dothan, Ala. When asked why they are moving to Gainesville where they have no family, Sarah Prophet was quick to say, 'Basketball, football.'
They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and everyone in the family is a Gator fan. They have been getting together for years in Gainesville for games.
The First United Methodist Church of Plant City Care Group honored them with a luncheon at the home of John and Sally Verner on Sept. 6.
Sally Verner, who directs the church's care giving program, said the Prophets have volunteered countless hours visiting shut-ins and nursing homes. Jim Pollard of the Orange Blossom Tea Room catered the meal and the Prophets were presented a book on the life of Christ.
Recreation Department Has A Lot To Offer
PLANT CITY - I'm learning what a fantastic Recreation and Parks Department and Boys & Girls Club we have. While watching my grandson at his first T-ball game, I realized that the heroes are not the players, the families cheering on the sideline, but the men and women who volunteer as coaches. They are right there giving the little guys and gals instruction, thumbs-ups and 'high 5s' at every turn.
The department offers many fall programs, including after-school play and learning, Kids Cafe Feeding Program, Mommy and Me Playtime and Teen Night. There are also sponsorship opportunities available. Call Chris Washburn, Planteen Recreation Center manager, at (813) 659-4200 Ext. 4340 or check out the programs at www.plantcitygov .com/rec.

Golfers Can Play Good Actor Roles
PLANT CITY - How about helping out with a little drama? The Durant High School drama students are inviting golfers to play in the 2nd annual 'Drolf' Golf Tournament on Sept. 30 at Walden Lake Golf and Country Club. The entry fee is $65 per player and includes 18 holes, a cart, contests, meal, prizes and entertainment.
Tia Coleman, a member of the winning team at last year's tournament, encourages support for the hard-working drama department. All proceeds will help fund four plays presented by Durant's Thespian Boosters and the Student Thespian Club and help send the outstanding thespians to state competition.
Last year, one of the Durant students earned a $1,000 college scholarship and the team received the highest of reviews.
Call Ed Mason, the drama teacher, at (813) 757-9075, Ext. 280, to register, or pick up a brochure at Walden Lake Golf and Country Club, 2001 Clubhouse Drive.
