PLANT CITY - The Plant City Federated Republican Women's Club won the highest possible ranking at the Republican Women's state convention Oct. 18-19 in Orlando.
The coveted Gold Award was given for large increases in membership, the club's annual $500 scholarships to Plant City High School and Durant High School seniors and other activities.
Heritage Day Kids' Fun
This year, the Children's Fun Festival, sponsored by the Plant City Arts Council, will be held in conjunction with the East Hillsborough Historical Society's Pioneer Heritage Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at the 1914 Plant City High School Community Center, 605 N. Collins St.
Also on that day, the Florida Cow Cavalry memorial exhibit will be dedicated. There will be food, live entertainment, exhibits, arts and crafts, bake sale and Civil War activities - something for all ages. The photography and railroad museums and the genealogy library will be open.

Local Thriller
There is still time to see Charleene Closshey in the musical thriller 'Jekyll & Hyde.'
Closshey, an acclaimed performing artist, is the daughter of Charles and Jennifer Closshey of Plant City.
Shows will run through Sunday at the Players Theatre in Sarasota. Call (941) 365-2494 for location, times, tickets and reserved seating.
The Mouse Will Roar
The venue for 'The Mouse that Roared' production by Plant City Entertainment beginning Nov. 9 has been changed. It will be staged at the Plant City Cornerstone Center, 315 N. Collins St., instead of on the local Hillsborough Community College campus.
The Cornerstone people continue to renovate, and it is looking great. The group's new state-of-the-art sound system will be used, and they promise not one word of dialogue will go unheard.
Riders Make The Grade
Two girls of the South Creek Pony Club, a regional branch of the U.S. Pony Club, are making a name for themselves.
Mariana Rehacek, 14, of Plant City, riding Travis, attained a rating of C-1 at a recent pony club testing at the Florida Horse Park in Ocala. Theo Adams, 16, of Valrico, participated in the club championships in Lexington, Ky. Adams took first place in the show jumping division. The U.S. Pony Club is a nonprofit youth organization that teachers riding, horsemanship, safety, responsibility and teamwork.
There are about 12,000 members in 625 pony clubs across the country.
A Royal Reminder
There will be a mandatory orientation meeting for those interested in participating in the Florida Strawberry Festival queen pageant at 2 p.m. Nov. 11.
Contestants must bring a parent or guardian to the meeting at the new Expo Building on the Florida Strawberry Festival fairgrounds. Pageant details will be discussed.
