PLANT CITY - With one week left before the state high school football playoff pairings are set, many teams across the state are unsure about their postseason fate.
For Plant City, though, things are pretty cut and dried.
The Raiders don't know exactly where they will be playing, but any potential opponents for the first three rounds are known. Of the eight playoff spots in Region 5A-2, seven are secured, and the final spot is another known quantity: The Sickles-Alonso winner on Nov. 2 gets it.
By comparison, some regions had no spots clinched heading into Friday's action.
Plant City is taking on Brandon on Friday to decide the District 5A-7 championship. Both teams know their first-round playoff opponent will be one of the top two teams in the state.
Lakeland and Kissimmee Osceola secured the 5A-8 postseason berths by winning last week. The big result was Kissimmee Osceola's narrow 34-31 win over Lake Gibson, a team that could finish the season 8-2, but is eliminated from the playoffs.
Gaither and Wharton wrapped up 5A-5's spots as well. Chamberlain is the District 6 winner, with the runner-up spot going to Alonso or Sickles.
The Plant City-Brandon game, to be played at Raider Stadium, takes on extra importance. The winner will have the home field in the playoffs.
