PLANT CITY - The Rams nearly became the first team this season to defeat the Bucs in Plant City Recreation and Parks Department/Optimist Youth Flag Football action Oct. 6. The Bucs came into the weekend with a 3-0 record; the other Elite League teams (13- through 15-year-olds) were 1-2.
The Bucs edged the Rams 22-21. Kaidrick Richardson scored two touchdowns, and Tyler Davis passed for two to lead the Bucs. Jared Smith ran back an interception for a score and caught a touchdown pass from Christopher Beahn.
There is one undefeated team left out of 10 in the Premier League (ages 10 to 12), the 4-0 Eagles. But there are three teams tied for second place, all at 3-1, and each put up a lot of points Oct. 6.
Clifford Martin scored three touchdowns as the Falcons topped the Cowboys 25-0; Harrison Heysek caught two touchdown passes as the Titans blanked the Lions 21-0; and Ryan Bradley and Kion Richardson accounted for two touchdowns each as the Jets beat the Chiefs 30-14. In the other game, Daniel Blair ran for two touchdowns as the Panthers got their first win, 19-14 over the Saints. The Eagles won by forfeit.
The Rabbits and Wildcats both went to 4-0 in the Junior League (ages 6 and 7) with convincing victories. Dylan Williams scored three touchdowns for the Rabbits as they beat the Dalmatians 26-0, and Lindsey Smith and Patrick Hicks both had scoring runs in the Wildcats' 13-2 defeat of the Indians.
In the Senior League (ages 8 and 9), there was a rare game where both teams surpassed the 20-point mark, with the Jaguars topping the Chargers 25-20. Steve Witchoskey had three touchdowns for the winners. Both the Steelers and Broncos remained tied for first place (3-0-1) with wins.
