Keel & Curley Concert To Focus On Piano Men

PLANT CITY - Fine wine, gourmet food and the hit songs of Billy Joel and Elton John are the ingredients for the launch of Keel & Curley Winery's first concert series on Sunday. It is a night that organizers say will enchant the ears and taste buds of audiences.

'It's going to be a fabulous evening,' said Vicki Shearer, the operations manager of the winery at 5210 W. Thonotosassa Road.

The Music Under the Stars series begins with a gourmet dinner served at 6 p.m. on the winery's wooden deck. General admission gates open at 7:30 p.m.

Recording artist and songwriter Jim Witter takes the outdoor stage at 8 p.m. to present 'The Piano Men,' a musical journey through the 1970s inspired by the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John.
General admission tickets, which do not include the meal, are $30. Dinner/show tickets range from $65 to $75, depending on seating. Every couple attending the concert will receive a complimentary bottle of Keel & Curley wine, Shearer said.

As Witter plays grand piano and interprets hits such as 'My Life,' 'Just the Way You Are,' 'Rocket Man' and 'Candle in the Wind,' images of newspaper headlines, events, TV shows and other pop culture trends that shaped the 1970s will be projected on a big screen.

Ten of Witter's songs have become top 10 hits in Canada, and he has performed throughout North America and Europe. In 1994, he was nominated for two Juno awards - the Canadian equivalent of America's Grammy Awards - for Best New Solo Artist and Best Country Male Vocalist.

The Music Under the Stars series will continue with a New Year's Eve gala and concerts in the spring.

Keel & Curley makes 16 varieties of wine and 95 retailers in Florida carry the products.
