PLANT CITY - Charles Briggs will be the guest speaker at next week's meeting of the Plant City Woman's Club.
He will speak on how to save electricity in a program titled 'Let There Be Light.' The club meets at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Woman's Club building, 1110 N. Wheeler St.
A group of club members will be attending the October district meeting where club President Alise Sollenberger will be a candidate for District 8 director for 2008.
The club asks its members to be thinking about nominating candidates for Plant City Citizen of the Year. The honor is bestowed in March on an outstanding resident selected from nominations from clubs and civic organizations.
Health Fair Today For Children
PLANT CITY - Don't forget that South Florida Baptist Hospital's annual Karing for Kids Health Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Arthur Boring Civic Center on the Florida Strawberry Festival grounds.
Free screenings for dental, scoliosis, vision, blood pressure, body mass index, height and weight will be featured for the children.
Additionally, there will be fun activities for the youngsters and displays by many area organizations and groups. Parents may get answers to health-related questions at the Ask a Doctor booth manned by South Florida Baptist pediatrician Gloria Ribas-Schultz.
This year's theme for the fair is Dance Your Way Into a Healthy Lifestyle with performances by the Plant City High School cheerleaders and several dance studios.
Unity Looking For Yard-Sale Items
PLANT CITY - Unity in the Community is looking for items for a yard sale Friday and Oct. 13. The sale will be at the Sweetbay Supermarket, 597 S. Wheeler St.
Anyone wishing to donate items should call Joyce Jordan at (813) 752-1275.
Unity in the Community raises money to help the needy of the Plant City area.
Umpires Sought For Adult League
PLANT CITY - The Plant City Parks and Recreation Department is hiring umpires for the fall adult softball league. Both experienced and nonexperienced may apply. Umpires must be at least 18.

Blood Drive Coming To Library
PLANT CITY - Florida Blood Services will be in the parking lot of Bruton Memorial Library from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 13 for a blood drive.
The parking lot is bordered by West Baker, North Wheeler, McLendon and North Thomas streets.
Those who donate will receive a 2008 wall calendar and have checks for blood pressure, cholesterol and iron count. Blood donors must bring a photo ID and must weigh at least 110 pounds. Teens 16 and older may donate with parental consent.
