PLANT CITY - It's not even close: Softball is by far the biggest draw of all the sports offered by the Plant City Recreation and Parks Department.
As the athletic program manager, Larry Langston knows why he must keep the softball tournaments coming.
'Yeah, that would be if I want to keep my job,' Langston said. 'We're trying for two tournaments a month.'
Last week Langston got the go-ahead for the 2007 Plant City Turkey Smash Co-Ed Tournament, which will take place Nov. 3 at the Randy L. Larson Softball Four-Plex and adjacent Plant City Stadium.
The event is for Class D teams, and the fee to enter is $235 per team.
'You have Class A which is the super competitive. ... and Class D, is pretty much like you and me playing softball,' Langston said.
The deadline for entries is Oct. 19. American Softball Association and Plant City parks rules will apply; Langston is available at (813) 659-4200, Ext. 4302 for information.
Langston said 46 teams are taking part in the three softball leagues at the Four-Plex complex this season. Co-ed play is Monday nights, with men's doubleheader leagues on Tuesdays and men's divisional play on Thursdays.
