PLANT CITY - Marine Cpl. David Clemann is back from his second tour in Iraq. Clemann, stationed at Camp Lejune in Jacksonville, N.C., and his wife, Cynthia, are from Plant City. They have two sons, Seth and Jonathan.
Plant City Scout Makes Eagle
PLANT CITY - A Court of Honor was held Sept. 15 at Cork United Methodist Church, designating Adam Harlow to the highest rank in Boy Scouts, an Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 734 based out of Bethany Baptist Church in the Cork area.
He was presented a certificate of achievement from Gulf Ridge Council, Timucua District, by Nick Bodwell, Timucua District training chair and the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout certificate and pin by H.V. Nawlin, former scoutmaster of troop 734. Harlow's uncle, Doug Jensen, presented his nephew with a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on May 29, 2007, in his honor. Jensen Harlow read a poem in her brother's honor.
To earn the honor, Harlow spent about 100 hours (with help from his troop) irrigating and replanting several areas at John B. Sargent Park in Thonotosassa.
Durant High Grad Wins Scholarship
PLANT CITY - Nanci Palacios, a graduate of Durant High School, has been awarded the first George F. Sorn scholarship. The Florida Specialty Crop Foundation presented the award Sept. 18. She achieved a 5.0 grade-point average and an impressive list of honors.
Active in community service, Palacios is attending Hillsborough Community College with a goal of enrolling in University of South Florida to pursue a medical career. The scholarship is named for Sorn, an industry veteran, and the foundation, established in 1991, which addresses specialty crop growers' scientific and knowledge needs.
Palacios wrote in her application for the scholarship that 'sometimes people criticize without knowing the true history behind each individual. It's up to us, as migrant sons and daughters, to prove them wrong and demonstrate that we too can be leaders to be followed.'
Local Artist Featured At Art Guild Meeting
PLANT CITY - Monica Naugle of Plant City is scheduled to be the guest artist at the East Hillsborough Art Guild's meeting Monday at the Greater Plant City Chamber of Commerce on Evers Street. Born in Colombia, Naugle does metal weavings.
Her works have been exhibited at the Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland and she is in the public art collections of the Jan Platt Regional Library, Tampa, and soon a terrazzo floor at the Loretta Ingraham Recreation Center, Tampa.
Anne Kavanagh, who will be the guild's guest artist sometime after the first of the year, is exhibiting at Tampa International Airport's art gallery (in the corridor going toward the hotel).

Minister, Daughter Meet Dolly Parton's Kin
PLANT CITY - The Rev. Nora Lehman Moore recently traveled with daughter Nora McClendon, daughter-in-law Sissy Lehman and longtime friend Faye Judah, to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. While at Dollywood theme park, they met Dolly Parton's aunt and uncle.
'We saw the handiwork of God everywhere we went,' said Moore, who attended a retreat in Brooksville after her return from Tennessee.
The retreat was sponsored by the Pentecostal Church of God and was attended by 105 women from across the state. Before returning home, she visited her son and family in Jennings.
'The greatest blessings of life are not bought in a store, but love for family and friends are treasures on Earth,' the minister said.
