PLANT CITY - Crystal Romano, wife of T.J. Romano, and daughter of Kenny and Marci Wiggins, all of Plant City, showed up for the largest audition ever for the Tampa Bay Lightning Girl competition, and came out a winner. She was one of 14 selected to cheer the Tampa Bay hockey team on during the season.
She is a recent cum laude graduate of the University of South Florida. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education and hopes to continue her studies and get a master's.
"I thank God and my amazing family, Mom, Dad, older sister Stephanie and husband T.J., for believing in all of my dreams," she said.
In addition to her Lightning Girl role, she pours a great cup of coffee at Fred's Market Restaurant where she is a part-time server.
Two Mothers Share Family News
PLANT CITY - Bragging rights come with the title of mom.
At Pioneer Heritage Day on Nov. 17, Sarah Rodgers and Ruby Jean Redman shared family news. Rodgers' son, Skipper, has returned from a trip to Israel with a group from First Baptist Church of Orange Park, where he is the children's minister. She showed off a necklace made from a widow's mite that he brought home.
Redman shared news that her grandson, Chip Bowden, son of Pam Redman Bowen and Bud Bowden of Plant City, is playing football for West Point.
School Has Successful Fundraiser
PLANT CITY Shiloh Elementary Charter School had a successful pancake breakfast fundraiser Nov. 10. The school, with its teachers acting as servers, raised about $1,000.
More than 200 people bought meals. Kazbor's Sports Grille donated the food.
Mayor Recognizes Hospice Month
PLANT CITY - During National Hospice Month, Plant City Mayor Rick Lott presented LifePath Hospice, one of the nation's largest not-for-profit hospice organizations, a proclamation for its service to families in Plant City.
During the Nov. 13 city commission meeting, Myra Price, the site director of the LifePath Hospice Temple Terrace Community Resource Center, accepted proclamation. The organization cares for about 1,800 patients and their families each day. Lott serves on the LifePath Hospice board of directors.
Group Has Good Time
In St. Petersburg.
PLANT CITY - Their motto is "having a good time" and that's just what the Redberry Roadies of Plant City did at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. The club members ate lunch at the Columbia Restaurant on The Pier in St. Petersburg and toured the museum.
