PLANT CITY - People who heard a woman's cry for help foiled an attempted carjacking Nov. 17, police said.
Police responded to a parking lot at 2418 James L. Redman Parkway where they arrested James A. Jordan, 48, of Tennessee, on charges of armed carjacking and false imprisonment, authorities said.
Police Sgt. Curtis Williams reported that Jordan is suspected of forcing a woman at knifepoint into her car and ordering her to get into the passenger seat. The victim screamed and honked the car horn, which drew the attention of several people nearby, police said. The victim's name was not immediately available.
The witnesses came to the woman's aid, and when Jordan ran, they followed him into a store and detained him until police arrived, Curtis reported.
Police said in a statement that Jordan is a registered sexual offender from Tennessee. He was being held Tuesday at Orient Road Jail with bail set at $252,000.
