PLANT CITY - The Plant City Recreation and Parks Department/Optimist Youth Basketball program is holding registration for the upcoming season, the 39th year of the program.
Boys ages 8 to 16 and girls 8 to 14 as of March 1 are eligible to compete. The season begins Jan. 3 and ends Feb. 26.
Registration ends Nov. 28.
The registration fee is $22, which includes mandatory recreation accident insurance. Checks can be mailed to the Recreation and Parks Department office at 1904 S. Park Road, Plant City FL 33563-8113. Make checks payable to Friends of Recreation and Parks.
Sign-ups can also be done in person at the department office, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Birth certificates are required except for returning players from 2007.
Games are held at the Marshall and Tomlin middle school gyms as well as at the Plant City Family YMCA.
Coaches conduct practice no more than once a week. The league provides basic training in basketball skills and rules, as well as positive leadership to build character and overall citizenship of the players.
Last year, more than 500 youths played in the league.
