Items of interest from the Nov. 13 city commission meeting include:
•Commissioners unanimously approved amendments to the city's long-range plan that include the rezoning of recently annexed property. One amendment that was to be included in this round of public hearings - the rezoning of more than 1,000 acres of the Cone-Graham tract north of Interstate 4 - was postponed until summer 2008.
More time is needed to address the impact to I-4 that the Cone-Graham rezoning is expected to cause, said Mark Hudson, principal planner for the county planning commission. The property is proposed for housing and some commercial development.
Commissioners approved these three amendments to its master plan, which will be transmitted to the state's Department of Community Affairs for final review: the rezoning of 18 acres on South Frontage Road and Interstate 4 to commercial and natural preservation; rezoning about 10 acres on North Wilder Road and U.S. 92 for residential use; and a text amendment that would allow motor coach resort parks to be permitted on privately-owned property.
•County money will help fund city road improvement projects, according to City Manager David Sollenberger's twice-monthly report to commissioners. The county has approved $775,000 to help extend, resurface and widen portions of Trapnell Road and $120,000 to help extend Medulla Road about 1,300 feet to Jim Johnson Road, Sollenberger said in his report.
The money was less than what the city requested, Sollenberger said. The city asked the county for $4.5 million for Trapnell Road and $2 million for the Medulla Road extension.
•The commissioners set their priorities for a meeting that was to take place Friday with the Hillsborough County legislative delegation. Commissioners presented their wish list for state help to the state lawmakers, including: $1.3 million for the improvements to the Eastside Canal; $1 million for a reclaimed water distribution system along Sydney Road; and $200,000 for further development of Ellis-Methvin Park, among others.
