PLANT CITY - The Plant City High School Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps has been designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction for the 34th consecutive year, making it one of the most decorated units in the country.

The Department of Army presents the award to programs that maintain exceptionally high standards in training, discipline and performance. The Plant City High program achieved a combined score of 991 out of 1,000 possible points.

The award was announced at the unit's third annual Meet and Greet Picnic on Sept. 8 at Plant City High, where more than 220 parents, cadets and friends enjoyed a day of games, food and fellowship.

During the picnic, the parents also had the opportunity to meet the instructors and the incoming board members of the PRIDE Club (Patriotism, Responsibility, Integrity, Dedication and Esprit de Corps).

PRIDE is the Junior ROTC parents' organization; its mission is to spread the word about the cadets' accomplishments. St. Clement Catholic Church's Knights of Columbus sponsored the event by providing the food, buffet service and cooks.

The event was held at Massey's ranch, the Bar M. Harold Mott fried the fish.

The next fundraiser is the annual fruitcake bake under the direction of Dot Spear. The baking has started at Jim Pollard's Orange Blossom Tea Room.
