Published: November 10, 2007

PLANT CITY - The Plant City Garden Club and members of Plant City High School Key Club teamed up Oct. 27 to landscape two Habitat for Humanity homes on Drane Street.

Indian hawthorn, Confederate jasmine and lantana are just a few of the plants that were installed at the homes. Members of the two clubs broke into teams, with each team taking a section to dig holes, plant and mulch.

"I was very impressed with how hard the students worked, they were not afraid to get their hands dirty." Club President Cassandra Banning said.

In addition to providing the plants, the garden club is giving each homeowner the tools to take care of their lawn and landscaping.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry that works to eliminate substandard housing and homelessness. The organization has built more than 225,000 houses around the world since it was founded in 1976, according to the agency's Web site. Homeowners are required to help with construction of their Habitat homes.
