Church Will Host Health Fair, Complete With Flu Shots

PLANT CITY - The First Baptist Church of Plant City, in conjunction with South Florida Baptist Hospital Parish Nurse Services, will host a health fair from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 11.

The fair will offer flu and pneumonia shots, free screenings and contact with health professionals and community resources. Florida Blood Services will be there for blood donations. Lunch will be available for a donation.

Sunshine State Cleans Up At YMCA

PLANT CITY - Volunteers from Sunshine State Federal Savings and Loan spent Oct. 18 at the Plant City Family YMCA's Youth Extension site on Young Street, giving the facility a thorough cleaning from top to bottom. The cleanup followed the site's use as a summer camp.

The project was part of the United Way Day of Caring, a national program that brings together volunteers to work on-site at community projects.

At the YMCA, the volunteers scrubbed walls, floors and other surfaces.

Lee Will Speak To Organization

PLANT CITY - Former Florida Senate President Tom Lee will be guest speaker at the Thursday meeting of the Strawberry Chapter of the National Association of Retired and Current Federal Employees.

The meting will be at 1 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Plant City's singles ministry building at Baker and Collins streets.

Community Invited To Turkey Supper

PLANT CITY - Residents of Plant City and surrounding communities are invited to Hope Lutheran Church's annual All You Can Eat Turkey Supper from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church, 2001 N. Park Road.

The dinner includes turkey, dressing, gravy, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, dessert and a beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Diners can either eat in or carry out. Advance tickets are not required.

Last year, more than 500 dinners were served, and hopes are that the total will be higher this year, dinner chairman Hal Anklam said.

Farm-City Festival In Tampa Tuesday

TAMPA - A Farm-City Festival will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in downtown Tampa showcasing the importance of Hillsborough County's $763 million agriculture industry.

The celebration will be at Joe Chillura Courthouse Square in the 600 block of East Kennedy Boulevard.

The event is free and will include samples of local farm products, fresh produce, made-to-order omelets and orange juice, along with an opportunity to make butter and "milk" a mechanical cow.

The season's first flat of strawberries and first box of tomatoes will be presented by growers. At noon, the county commission will designate Nov. 16-22 as Farm-City Week.

The Farm-City Festival is sponsored by the county's Economic Development Department's Agriculture Industry Development Program and the Hillsborough County Farm Bureau.

Participating groups include the Florida Strawberry Growers Association, Florida Tomato Committee, Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County, Florida Dairy Farmers, Florida Department of Citrus, Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association, Hillsborough County Cattlewomen's Association and many others.
