PLANT CITY - A pilot was slightly injured in a helicopter crash Dec. 12 near Plant City Stadium.
Jeffery Ames, age and address unavailable, didn't want to go to the hospital after the 7 p.m. crash, Plant City police officers said. Ames, who took off from Lakeland, told officers he lost power at about 500 feet and descended into pines and oaks in Plant City's Urban Forest park, police Lt. Jerry Stwan said.
Ames, who was flying alone in the two-seat helicopter, was found after the crash walking near Park Road, officers said.
He was treated at the scene for head cuts, Officer DeeDee Gregory said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified, Stwan said.
Damage to the helicopter was estimated at $180,000.
