Athletes Honored At Banquet

PLANT CITY - A ribbon was placed on the fall sports season at Plant City High School this week.

The fall sports banquet, put on by the Raiders Athletics Booster Club, brought together the volleyball, golf, swimming and cross country teams to spend an evening where each team's top performers were honored.

Stephanie Barker, who finished in sixth place at the Class 3A state swim meet, was named the girls swimming team's Most Valuable Player. Blair Butler was named the boys team's MVP.

Anna Palermo, who reached her first state meet, was named Most Dedicated, with the other girls swimming trophies going to Shannon Crook (Most Improved), Nicole Romnosky (Coach's Award of Excellence), Caitlyn Chandler (Team Player) and Kate Kent (Rookie of the Year).

Receiving the corresponding trophies for the boys squad were Aaron Sykes, Dane Peterson, Corey Bryant, Dylan Kenyon and Nikita Markov.

Kyle Martin and Cody Lusk split the MVP honors on the boys golf team. The Raiders reached the regional tournament, where Martin shot a 73. The Coach's Award went to Brad Hall, Richard Elwell was Rookie of the Year, Blake Sparkman received the Sportsmanship Award and Nicholas Jones was Most Improved.

The girls team Most Valuable Player was split between Jordan Joyner and Dakota Baty. Crystal Bennett, Skiti McLelveen and Tanay Tatum received Most Improved, Alicia Pruet was given the Spirit Award and Carli Copeland was Rookie of the Year.

Ali Boggs was the volleyball squad's MVP. Also honored were Rebecca Hurley (Offense), Erika Kolakowski (Defense), Shea Kirk (Serving), Krysta Kolakowski (Coach's Award), and Alix Hooker (Over Zealous).

Tanner Hawkins was the cross country MVP. On the boys team, Most Improved Runner was Tyler Bertomeu; Outstanding Freshman, Andrew Smrstick; and Outstanding Sophomore, Blake Thomas. Girls team awards included Most Dedicated, Danielle Keirsey; Best Attitude, Liliana Gutierrez; and Hardest Runner and Coach's Award, Emily Hoy.
